"'I started my business helping small businesses with the security assessments and training needs. I have developed a huge network of IT, Security, Auditors, and other technical professionals to handle huge tasks."

What were some of the challenges in starting your business?


"I have been in business for nearly five years, assuming smaller contracts. The lift would be when I move away from outsourcing business support and bringing those services in-house."


What is the key to the success of your business?


"Making and building great relationships, and keep my knowledge professionals happy!"


What lessons learned can you share with people to make their business succeed?


"Persistence is what has gotten me where I am so far. That persistence also includes my motivation and willingness to commit to continuous education and learning."


What pitfalls should they avoid?


"Avoid the "frustration bug" as that's the number one enemy of start-ups."

"I am here to learn and to make friends. Building my network is key to driving my business' success now and in the future. I am a willing partner who will happily support any vendor with my expertises."

Why did you join the military?


"I wanted an adventure, college money, and I wanted to see the world initially. Right after basic training, it was for a greater cause than me. I learned a lot about self-less service and honor!"

"I was a Signal Soldier (31L) initially. Then I became a Warrant (250N), and finally a commissioned officer (25A) - and I enjoyed every moment of my years of service, even when things were bad, I learned something that drives me today. So even the not-so-goods were beneficial!"

"The Gulf War experience taught me a lot of empathy for others."

On October 22, NaVOBA celebrated the Minority Veteran's Business Enterprise of the Year Awards Ceremony during the 2024 National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) Conference in Atlanta. Hosted at Cuts Steakhouse, a sponsor of the event alongside Accenture, Shell, and Hilton, the event was complete with a full course meal, drinks, and networking. Mimi Lohm, NaVOBA's Chief Development Officer, kicked off the event and set the stage for the awardees. Keynote speakers included Brandi Rauch, General Manager of Supply Chain for Shell, Che' McFerrin, Associate Manager, Global Supplier Inclusion & Sustainability at Accenture, and Matthew Pavelek, NaVOBA's President. Before the announcements of the winners, NaVOBA surprised Don McKneely, Chairman & CEO of Minority Business News, with the 2024 Veteran's Business Champion Award. The program then went on to highlight two companies who have demonstrated excellence within their industries with the 2024 Veteran's Business Enterprise (VBE)® We Love Awards. The first VBE We Love Award went to Demond Crump, CEO of REIGN Premium Sanitary Napkins. Founded in 2019, REIGN Premium Sanitary Napkins specializes in providing innovative sanitary napkins and panty liners infused with a Nobel Prize-winning material featuring a super absorbent system. The key to REIGN's success lies in prioritizing their mission over profits, ensuring that the focus on empowering women and young girls takes precedence.
